2022 was an amazing year of giving back for Coco Moon Hawai’i! Through our Giving Back program, we donate 1% of all sales to the Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children, and this year we donated over $25,000!
The Kapi’olani Medical Center is essential to our island community. Hawai’i is one of the most remote places in the world, and the Kapi’olani Medical Center is able to offer high quality care to women and children living in Hawai’i, allowing them to stay close to their families without sacrificing the quality of treatment.
We feel so grateful to be able to contribute to some of the amazing projects and expansions happening at Kapi’olani, including their new Cancer Center. See below to learn about all of the incredible ways our donations are being used, and what’s in store for Kapi’olani!
Kapi'olani Cancer Center
The time has come for the Kapi’olani Medical Center to expand cancer and infusion services for women and children statewide. We are proud to support Kapi’olani as the medical center embarks on this capital expansion, in honor of the late Martha B. Smith, who worked passionately to improve health care in Hawai‘i during her time as Kapiolani’s chief executive officer.
Approximately sixty children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and 150 undergo active treatment. A new and expanded cancer center will allow children and their families to remain on island while undergoing treatments. If a family had to travel to the mainland, it would leave them without their home and support system for six months to even two years. The new Cancer Center will give children, like Cruz, the opportunity to fight cancer while staying near home and loved ones. Check out Cruz’s story here, and learn more about his amazing strength.
Toy Drive
During the holidays, we partnered with Maui Brewing Co. to host a Toy Drive for the Kapi’olani play room! The toy room is a safe haven for pediatric patients to play and forget about being hospitalized. The toys donated went directly to the playroom, and were also used as gifts for children staying at the hospital and their siblings over Christmas.
We were so amazed and grateful to our community for the amazing toys donated! It’s hard to imagine what families are going through when their children are hospitalized, and we are thankful to have been able to offer some gifts to help ease some of the holiday stress and bring some fun relief to the children and their siblings.
